Nowadays, contortionists can be seen in all kinds of different places. They still perform in the circus, but not all contortionists are in traveling circuses. Contortionists can often be seen in popular shows such as Cirque Du Soleil. These days, there are plenty of opportunities to work  in shows that stay in one location or to jump around and be a part of many different groups and gigs. 

Not only performers are classified as contortionists. Students, parents, doctors, or zookeepers could all practice contortion in their free time. Learning this art form has become a much more accessable and acceptable activity. 

Some contortionists today may still perform full time while others choose to coach or have an entirely different job to support themselves and their creative passions.
